About Re:start: Hummingbird Coffee was approached and invited to join the initial reopening of the Christchurch CBD. They designed and constructed a fully operating café out of three 40 foot extra high shipping containers. Along with this, they designed and developed Re:start the blend; a extremely complex composition of nine different single origins, all roasted by hand separately before blending. It’s this approach of single small ‘batch’ roasting that offers the opportunity to have the same coffee in the blend roasted both medium and a wee bit darker. The result is a bold, beautiful coffee with many layers and a great full-on flavour. With the creation of the Re:start coffee blend, we also wanted to give back and decided to launch the blend as a retail unit into grocery. We initially partnered with the Court Theatre and raised over 120K to help them rebuild and re-equip themselves after the event. Since then we have set up the Hummingbird coffee charitable trust which has a broader more national focus but still grounded in helping people and communities Re:start after events outside of their control.
